Children in a Changing Climate: Research
Children in a Changing Climate hosts an innovative research programme that provides the evidence base to enable practitioners, policy-makers and children themselves to take action to prevent and adapt to climate change.
We are dedicated to exploring participatory research methods for investigating climate change with children and building their knowledge and capacity as agents of change.
Topics of Research
Our primary focus is children’s agency and investigating the effectiveness of child-centred responses to climate change and disaster risk reduction. We also look to explore the policy spaces where children’s voices can be heard and where the needs, rights and capacities of children should be recognised.
- Participatory methods for researching climate change and disaster risk reduction with children and their communities. Participatory Video has been explored in a number of research programmes both as a research tool and a tool for dialogue with decision-makers
- Children as innovators, communicators of risk and participants in risk reduction programmes and decision-making spaces
- Learning from child-centred disaster risk reduction to share good practice and inform adaptation planning
- Emerging issues affecting children’s futures in a changing climate
- The role of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and theories of Intergenerational Justice in child-centred responses to climate change
