Children in a changing climate is securing children and young people a voice in preventing and adapting to climate change.
ccc-policy is securing the participation of children in national and international climate negotiations for a successor to the Kyoto Protocol. Through a global network of partners, ccc-policy is:
- collecting, synthesising and presenting the views of children from many countries on their adaptation priorities and the impacts they are already experiencing
- identifying child climate change champions who are able to articulate their views and the views of other children in these policy spaces
- ensuring children are supported in their own country to understand and engage in national policy processes related to climate change.
ccc-policy aims to
-
work to legitimise the voice of children and young people so that their views are respected
-
ensure children’s concerns, experiences and priorities on climate change are heard at relevant international climate change negotiation spaces such as UNFCCC COP14 and COP15
-
support children’s participation in developing and monitoring relevant national plans and processes such as National Adaptation Programmes of Action, Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers, Environmental legislation and donor’s Country Assistance Plans
-
help children develop policy recommendations that are directly related to priority issues in climate change debates and negotiations and help them to influence government and international climate change reduction and adaptation strategies.
-
enable children to advocate for change locally in their own neighbourhood, with their families, schools and communities.
The ccc-policy website presenting children’s messages for policy makers, and their experiences of influencing climate change policy is currently under construction.
