ccc-learning have completed an extensive audit of educational resources on different aspects of climate change, aimed at or appropriate for teaching key stage 3 curricula in the UK.

The report is compiled from research on over 40 websites related to climate change. Drawing upon some of the high quality existing resources, developed by the government, media agencies and NGOs, Children in a Changing Climate was able to identify some of the gaps in learning resources for children and generate ideas for creating new and high quality materials, and avoiding duplication.

The report highlighted that there is a great deal of information for children on the causes of climate change and its biophysical impacts, but far less on the social impacts in developing countries and on climate justice debates.

Besides some emerging strong resources by lead development agencies, few materials discuss climate change in a comparative, international context including child testimonies, and few are yet to be integrated into school curricula.

The report categories types of resources which include visuals, lesson plans, activities, online interactive animations, reports, fact sheets, video/film, case studies.

Climate change learning resources, like any other, must be appropriate for the context in which a child is learning. This report was focused on resources appropriate to the UK education system. ccc-learning will be conducting similar analysis of resources available globally that might meet the learning needs of children in diverse geographical and socio-economic contexts. In particular, Children in a Changing Climate will be identifying the type of learning initiatives appropriate to children who are most vulnerable to climate shocks, and have contributed the least.

ccc-learning is facilitating the global exchange and production of climate change learning resources and initiatives
