research themes
voice and participation
The voice and participation theme considers the opportunities for young people’s voices to be heard in climate adaptation and disaster reduction policy spaces and the specific capacities of children and youth to express their voice.
perceptions and knowledge
The perceptions and knowledge theme examines how young people’s knowledge of climate change differs from other generations - from their parents and grandparents - the factors causing this difference and the implications this has for autonomous and top-down climate adaptation.

risk communication
The risk communication theme explores how young people conceptualise climate and disaster risk, how they communicate this and the influence this has on action in their households and their communities.

futures
The futures theme investigates what impacts climate change will have children's futures such as their employment and career choices and decisions, their likelihood to migrate, and their chances of becoming involved in conflicts over natural resources and their health?

rights and governance
The rights and governance theme explores children's rights to adaptation and mitigation, how they could be constituted and claimed, and how rights based programming can help support children's policy influence and access to adaptation assistance.

gender
Research being conducted under each of the five other themes considers how gender relations play out amongst children in their participation, knowledge and communication on climate change, and how research, policy and practice, such as the development of rights based interventions, should consider gender differences.
