Children in a changing climate

theme risk communication

overview

This theme explores how children conceptualise climate and disaster risk, how they communicate this and the influence this has on action in their households and their communities.

key questions

  • How do children conceptualise and communicate disaster and climate change ‘risk' in areas of developing countries prone to disasters and high climate change impacts?

  • Are children effective agents of change through both communicating risks and promoting adaptive actions?

  • What implications do the above findings have for theoretical approaches and models of risk communication and management, which have tended to ignore the role of children?
